WASHINGTON — Washington football has been on a tear in the early season.
The Demons won three straight games to begin the season before suffering their first loss last week at No. 10 Grinnell, 31-0.
This week the Demons will face another tough test in the Chiefs of Keokuk.
Keokuk is on a bit of a streak themselves right now. After back-to-back loses to begin the season against Ottumwa and Pella, the Chiefs have bounced back with a pair of wins, thrashing Burlington 45-7 and defeating Fairfield last Friday 44-33.
So far this season, the Demons are led by Logan McDole with 242 yards passing and three touchdowns. He’s also completed 27-of-36 passes for a 75% completion rate.
Washington has been without McDole the past two weeks as he’s dealt with injury.
On the ground, Kael Williams has dashed for 208 yards and four touchdowns. He took over the quarterback role in McDole’s absence. Caden Greiner follows with 84 yards and McDole has 82 yards.
On the receiving side of things, Mason Morgan had nine catches for 193 yards and a touchdown. Jayfred Espinosa has a team high 12 receptions for 122 yards and two scores.
Defensively, Jude Carter has 34 total tackles. Brady Krantz leads in sacks with 3.5. Keider Gomez Valdez has eight tackles for a loss as well.
For Keokuk, Brenton Hoards leads through the air and on the ground. He’s thrown for 769 yards and eight touchdowns. On the ground, he’s rushed for 388 yards and eight scores as well.
Drew Campbell has 15 receptions for 258 yards and three touchdowns.
Mason Claus leads the Chiefs with 49.5 tackles, 6.5 tackles for a loss and two sacks.
Since 2008, Washington holds a 14-3 record over the Keokuk. The Chiefs did get the better of the Demons last season 47-0.
Prior to that, Washington won seven straight.
