Washington loses; Mid-Prairie edged by No. 6 Anamosa

WASHINGTON — The Washington softball team was unable to defeat Burlington in a game Thursday in Southeast Conference play, losing to the Grayhounds 15-0 in five innings. The second game of the scheduled doubleheader never got underway as weather forced the squads from the field. No makeup date has been set.
Burlington pitcher Saydee Plummer did not allow a hit to Washington in the five innings but walked five. Isabella Salazar gave up 14 hits, 12 earned runs and four walks to the Grayhounds.
The loss puts the Demons at 14-14 overall and 8-5 in the league. Burlington (14-11 overall) takes a commanding lead in the SEC with an 11-2 SEC mark. Fairfield is second at 9-4, Washington third.
Mid-Prairie’s Lugar 3-hits No. 6 Anamosa
KALONA — Mid-Prairie suffered a 2-1 River Valley Conference defeat by Class 3A No. 6 Anamosa (22-7, 13-1RVC). It took eight innings for the Blue Raiders to get their second run after both teams plated a score in the first. Each team made an error, had three free passes to first base (Mid-Prairie was walked thrice while Anamosa had two batters hit by a pitch and a base on balls), a double and two singles. The Golden Hawks had five stolen bases to one for the visitors.
Myah Lugar went all eight innings with six strikeouts in taking the loss.
Mid-Prairie’s Dakota Mitchell accounted for a third of all the hits in the game. She went 2-for-4 and scored on Hannah Sellers’ RBI. Gabi Robertson had the other Mid-Prairie hit. The Golden Hawks are 6-25 overall, 3-10 in conference.
Huff overwhelms Danville
KEOSAUQUA — Chelsey Huff gave up three hits and struck out 11 without a walk as Van Buren County won a Southeast Iowa Super Conference South Division game over visiting Danville 6-0.
Huff had two runs batted in without an at bat, drawing a walk and hitting two sacrifices. Isabel Manning had two hits and VBC teammate Ivy Davidson had two RBI. Van Buren is 18-5, 5-3.
Panthers pounce on Ravens
PACKWOOD — It was Allison Bainbridge at the plate and Brooke Miller in the circle for Pekin in a North Division 14-1(4) victory over visiting Hillcrest.
Bainbridge batted in three runs ripped two doubles and stole a base to generate Pekin’s offense from her spot as leadoff in the batting order. Miller struck out two without issuing a walk and allowed two hits in the game which lasted four innings.
Evelyn Gerber singled and scored Hillcrest’s only run.
