Golden Hawk’s Hostetler wins title, Demon’s Rees placed fourth

WAVERLY — Washington and Mid-Prairie boys and girls cross-country showed why they’re some of the top teams in the state on Saturday while competing in the Dan Huston Invite at Wartburg
The competition is one of the biggest cross-country invitationals in the state, featuring over nearly 400 athletes and 40 schools on the boys and girls’ side.
Leading the area in the competition, was none other than the Golden Hawks of Mid-Prairie.
The Golden Hawks girls finished third overall out of 42 teams, posting 201 points.
Dubuque Hempstead (60 points) and Gilbert (119 points) went one and two.
The Washington girls ended with a 15th-place finish. The Demons carded a score of 438.
Columbus competed as well, finishing 35th with 926 points.
On the boys’ side of things, Washington finished 17th with 509 points.
Mid-Prairie placed 23rd with 680 points and Columbus ended in 36th with 1,071 points.
Leading the way individually was none other than Mid-Prairie three time state champion Danielle Hostetler.
Hostetler won the individual girls title after clocking a time of 18:46.70, edging Nakia Olivierre of Waterloo West by two seconds.
The pair were the only two to run sub 19 minutes.
Phoebe Shetler ran 21:08.70 for 36th. Annika Poll finished 53rd in 21:28.60. Greta Sieren followed in 54th with a time of 21:31.40.
Abby Fleming ran to a 65th overall finish. Kendal Landstrum finished 67th. Brooklyn Stutzman placed 72nd. Dessa Poll was 132nd and Kali Miller was 207th.
For Washington, Iris Dahl ran to a 23rd overall finish. Dahl clocked 20:39.10.
Quincy Griffis was 93rd with a time of 22:22.60. Alyvia Anderson placed 98th at 22:26.30.
Angeline Anderson placed 109th. Amelia Dahl was 128th. Abigail Kleese ran to a 162nd finish. Kendall Hinrichsen placed 181st. Emma Horak was 184th. Isabella Lujan placed 203rd. Ada Kendall ended in 235th.
Columbus was led by Iris Garza in 60th. She ran a time of 21:40.10.
Ariana Vergara was 195th. Isabel Rendon placed 212th. Frannie Sosa placed 305th and Naveiah Garza was 314th.
On the boys’ individual side, Washington’s Micah Rees was the highest finisher.
Rees ran to a fourth overall finish, clocking a time of 15:47.60.
Lane Schrock placed 94th. Andrew Rees was 95th. Sawyer Tschantz ended in 147th. Andrew Shepherd finished 207th. Jace Sanders finished 221st. Drew Conrad crossed in 271st. Kael Malichky was 285th. Seth Shepherd ended at 283rd.
For Mid-Prairie, Emmett Swartzentruber crossed the tape in 25th. Swartzentruber ran 16:31.00.
Preston Yutzy finished 76th in 17:20.70.
Maxon Swartzentruber placed 171st. Daniel Rodgers finished 224th. Jesse Stultz placed 249th. Thomas Flynn ended in 257th. Reece Waters was 273rd. Jacob Donaldson placed 301st. Jonathon Pickard finished 330th.
For Columbus, Damian Vergara finished 195th in a time of 18:59.90.
Cade Storm finished 209th. Ian Estudillo placed 230th. Bryan Tlatenchi was 253rd. Ryan Villa finished 322nd. Juan Alcala was 354th. Fernando Erazo placed 366th. Drake Marin was 398th.
