Seventh-grade boys
The Washington Middle School seventh-grade boys? team picked up two games before Thanksgiving break, and the A team came away with a split record.
The A team first took on Keokuk on Nov. 17, defeating the Chiefs 44-38.
Wilx Witthoft led the team with 14 points in the game, while Trashaun Willis had two points and a team-high 11 rebounds.
Kael Adam finished the game with nine points and five rebounds, while Zach Stout had seven points and three steals.
?We improved on our team defense, especially our full-court press,? head coach Mark Berhow said. ?We created many opportunities to score from our steals. It was a very good team effort.?
In a Nov. 19 game against Edward Stone Middle School, the Demons pushed them to overtime, but a last-second half-court shot gave Edward Stone the 45-43 victory.
?We played much-improved basketball overall,? Berhow said. ?We did a very good job of getting good shots on offense. It was a close game all the way with a game-winning last second 30 foot shot by Edward Stone. It was an unfortunate ending to a hard-fought game. We are proud of the effort of our players.?
The Demons were led by Adam?s 14 points, while Willis put in 10 points, grabbed 18 rebounds and had six steals for Washington.
Witthoft and Stout each put in six points, while Witthoft added seven rebounds.
