Washington, Mt. Pleasant compete at Williamsburg
Demon’s Sobaski breaks school record, both teams see victory in shot put

WILLIAMSBURG — As the boys and girls track and field season continues to roll on, both Washington and Mt. Pleasant continue to thrive.
At the Williamsburg Co-ed Invitational on Tuesday night against 14 other teams, including Union area team Mid-Prairie both did just that.
On the boys side, Washington came away with two winners.
Lance Sobaski had himself a career night on the track. Sobaski cleared the field in the 800-meter run, clocking a time of 1:58.26 and breaking a school record that’s been in place since 1969 in the process. The record was previously held by Daryl Shy.
The Demon’s Brayden Hartman continues to show his dominance throwing the shot. The junior threw a 51’1’’ to take first overall in shot put.
Hartman and Sobaski were the only winners for the Demon’s. Elijah Morris of the Demons nearly picked up another first place finish in the 100-meter dash, but missed first by .01, finishing with a time of 11.24.
As a team the Demon’s picked up a seventh place finish, tallying 50 points.
The Panthers had no first places finishes on the night, but grabbed one second place finish.
Isaac Jerrel finished second in shot put for Mt. Pleasant, throwing for 46’ 1’’.
Mt. Pleasant finished the night with a team score of 20, good enough for 12th.
Mid-Prairie also took part in the event. The Golden Hawks saw two winners on the day, in the form of Cain Brown and Jayden Stafford.
Brown cleared 6’5’’ to finish first a top the high jump bracket and Stafford finished with a time of 23.68 in the 100-meter wheelchair.
The Golden Hawks finished just behind Washington with an seventh place finish, with 38 total points.
On the girls side of things, Mt. Pleasant had a great showing, finishing fourth overall as a team.
The Panther’s Jadan Brumbaugh continues to run the shot put field. This time around, Brumbaugh threw a 46’ 9 3/4, nearly clearing second by 10 feet. Brumbaugh also finished second in discus with a throw of 101’ 1’’.
Washington had no first or second place finishers on the night, but finished 13th as a squad with eight points.
The Golden Hawk girls had a pair of winners by the end of the meet.
Sydney Yoder, ran away from the rest of the field in the 3000 meter run, clocking a time of 10:51.02.
Mitzi Evans was the first to cross the finish line in the 800 meter run. Evans ended with a time of 2:19.34.
Mid-Prairie also pulled out a second-place finish in the distance medley. Madeline Schrader, Alyssa McDowell, Maya Nonnenmann and Yoder finished with a time of 4:39.52.
At the end of the meet, the Golden Hawks finished with 51 total points, good enough for seventh overall.
