The final week of the regular season is upon the Union area’s big schools in Washington, Mt. Pleasant and Fairfield.
Washington and Mt. Pleasant are still hopeful for a playoff spot, but both will need a lot to go in their favor to get in.
Fairfield meanwhile, will end its season on Friday.
Washington (5-3) is set to take on Fort Madison on the road (0-8) to close the regular season.
The Demons will need a win to keep their postseason hopes alive. Washington comes in off back-to-back losses to top five ranked Mount Vernon 42-21 and Assumption 34-6. A win from either of those game would have propelled the Demons’ chances.
Mt. Pleasant (4-4) will square off with Assumption at home (3-5).
The Panthers are on a two game winning streak, defeating Keokuk 34-27 and Fort Madison 16-14.
A win for the Panthers would help them drastically. Both Washington and Mt. Pleasant have to win at the least.
It’s going to come down to the ratings percentage index (RPI) used by the Iowa High School Athletic Association.
A win for both would put them at a tie with Assumption, but the Knights hold the tie breaker either way, which is why they need the RPI math to go in their favor.
Fairfield on the other hand is too far out, but the Trojans will be looking to end the season on a high note.
The Trojans (2-6) will take on Grinnell (5-3) at home to end the season.
