PALO — The Demon Bass Club won the third annual Iowa High School Bass Team Championship Saturday. The Demons won the annual tournament for back-to-back titles under captain and coach Nathan Mattes.
Washington’s team championship was bolstered by the individual title, won by John Prochaska and Kole Williams. The duo snagged five fish that weighed a total of 9.98 pounds. One of those five catches was a 4.61-pound bass, which was the big fish of the tournament.
Demons Noah Kleese and Charlie Henriksen also caught five fish, which totaled 7.28 pounds. That was good for fifth place.
The team aspect was to take the top two teams from each school and add them together. Washington’s top two of Prochaska, Williams, Kleese and Henriksen had a combined weight of almost 17 pounds to easily win the title. The 10 fish they caught weighed nearly four pounds more than the second-place school total.
Team members include: Noah Kleese, Charlie Henriksen, Grant Sobaski, Lance Sobaski, John Prochaska, Kole Williams, William Peterson, Jonathon Moore, Drew Horak, Luke Beenblossom, Riley Kasper, Caleb Zieglowsky.
The event awarded $1,500 worth of prizes.
