WASHINGTON — Last year, Washington High School head coach James Harris lamented that the one football game that got away from the Demons, the one they should have won but didn't, was the 30-20 loss at Oskaloosa.
The Demons have a chance to avenge that loss when they host the Indians tonight at Case Field.
Oskaloosa has enough votes to be ranked 11th in this week's Cedar Rapids Gazette/KGYM/Southeast Iowa Union football poll.
The Indians scored a 29-22 win over Pella Christian last week while Washington defeated Marion 27-6.
Oskaloosa quarterback Tyler Miller was 11 of 22 last week for 152 yards with one touchdown and one interception. Six different receivers caught at least one pass. Isaac Schultz and Cale Holmberg caught three passes each.
William Schultz, a sophomore, ran for 112 yards and a touchdown on 27 carries last week for the Indians. Miller, a senior, ran for 37 yards and two touchdowns on 12 carries.
The Indians caused two turnovers last week, an interception and a fumble.
Junior Reed Brown was the leading tackler last week with six for the Indians.
The Demons got 103 yards rushing on 18 carries from Wyatt Stout last week and Luke Turner rushed for 64 on nine carries. Each had two touchdowns rushing. Turner was 9 of 22 for 103 yards passing with two interceptions. Ethan Hunt had four catches for 35 yards and Brady Knutson three for 44.
Jace Buck led the Demons in tackles with eight in the 27-6 win over Marion last week. Stout had seven. Buck and Trashaun Willis each had two tackles for loss.
The Demons held Marion to 88 total yards, just 59 rushing on 42 attempts. The only Marion score was on a Demon turnover.
