Washington runs to 2nd at state meet

MARSHALLTOWN - Washington earned a second-place finish at the middle school state cross-country meet Saturday in the Class 3A seventh-grade division.
Washington was nine points behind first-place Decorah and 19 ahead of second place.
Sawyer Tschantz led the way for the Demon seventh-grade team finishing 10th overall in 11 minutes, 36.6 seconds and teammate Drew Conrad was less than two seconds behind him in 11th. They earned six and seven points, respectively, for the team total. Andrew Rees was 18th (12 team points) in 11:55.6 and in 21st (14) was Carson Ryan with a time of 12:07.5.
'They ran so well,” Washington coach Stefanie Haworth said. 'Only those four were interested in going and thankfully they only need four for a team. They've had a great season and it was a great way for them to end it.”
Gavin Slagel of Mt. Pleasant was 47th in 13:12.7.
