SOLON — It was yet another tough week for the Washington Demon football team, as they took a trip up to Class 3A district 5 foe No. 9 Solon.
A rocky start never got better for the Demons as the Spartans waltzed to a 44-0 victory on homecoming.
Solon got on the board early, off just a pair of screen plays from Blake Timmons to Sean Stahle that culminated into a 68 yard drive to the end zone.
Not but two minutes later, the Demons fumbled at their own two yard line and the Spartans fell on it in the end zone.
The lost fumble marked just one of four Washington turnovers.
For Solon, those turnovers turned into 21 points and by the end of the first quarter the Spartans had built a 28 point advantage.
The Spartans lead only got larger from then on out as they built up a lead of 37-0 at the half and tacked on seven more in the fourth.
Washington finished with just 116 yards of total offense in the loss, with 62 of the yardage coming from an Ethan Patterson completion to Jude Brown late in the half.
Solon’s defense was dominant. Washington rushed for just 1.7 yards per carry, with Casen Evans leading on 28 yards.
Patterson completed three passes on the night for 68 yards.
The Spartans finished with 340 total yards in the win.
Washington falls to 2-4, 0-2 in district play. The Demons will be back on the road Friday at Keokuk.
