WASHINGTON — Washington football suffered its second straight defeat on Friday night with loss to a stout Grinnell squad.
The Tigers scored in all four quarters on the night on their way to a 35-18 victory over the Demons.
Washington had a tough time containing the Grinnell offense early, as the Tigers scored two unanswered touchdowns in the first quarter for a 14-0 lead after one.
Washington put six points on the board in the second, but Grinnell scored seven themselves to make it a 21-6 ballgame at the half.
In the third, Grinnell added seven more to its total, while shutting out Washington.
Heading into the fourth, the Demons trailed the Tigers 28-6.
In the final quarter, Washington edged Grinnell 12-7, but it wasn’t enough to overcome the deficit.
Logan McDole led the Demons in the passing game with 93 yards.
Kael Williams had a huge game on the ground. He ran for 155 yards and three touchdowns in the loss.
Casen Evans finished with 57 yards on just one carry as well.
On the receiving end, Luke Beenblossom caught three passes for 35 yards. Jayfred Espinosa caught two balls for 58 yards.
Evans led the Demons defensively. He finished with 11.5 total tackles. Caden Greiner followed with 7.5 tackles. Williams recovered one fumble.
With the loss, Washington slips to 1-3 on the season. The Demons will be back in action Friday, Sept. 22 at Keokuk (2-2).
