WASHINGTON — Washington boys soccer opened up its season on Tuesday night against the Wildcats of Columbus/Winfield-Mt. Union.
For the Demons, it ended up being a great start to the season as they downed the Wildcats 7-0.
Washington wasted no time finding its offensive rhythm.
Demon junior Emanuel Raymundo kicked off the scoring just two minutes into the contest, as he found the back of the net off a Brayan Arreola assist.
For Raymundo that was just the start of a stellar day offensively on the pitch, which saw him score four goals.
Washington continued to push the pressure offensively and five minutes later the ball would find the net a second time, once again from Raymundo.
This time around, a Columbus/WMU foul committed in the box set Raymundo up with the penalty kick.
The offensive onslaught continued.
Seven minutes later, the Raymundo and Arreola connection delivered a score for a second time in just 14 minutes of action. The third goal for Raymundo and the second assist for Arreola on the evening.
For the next 27 minutes neither team would find the back of the net, but Washington continued to keep the pressure up.
The seal was broken once again at the 41 minute mark as Fredy Aguilar slipped the ball past the keeper of an assist from Isaac Gentry.
Gentry got himself into the scoring column just 10 minutes later off a corner kick that curved into the net from the left side of the goal, giving the Demons 5-0 lead.
Washington continued to tack on.
Raymundo got his fourth goal of the day and the Demons sixth in the 78th minute off a pass from Ben Kronlage.
Just a minute later, Arreola notched his first goal of the season off an assist from Angel Mata to push the Washington lead to 7-0.
The goal differential proved to be enough as Washington grabbed its first victory of the season.
Washington tallied a total of 41 shots in the win, 24 of which were on goal. The Demons also had a total of 10 corner kicks.
Will Gilchrist Brock finished with a pair of saves in the net for Washington.
