WASHINGTON — The Washington boys and girls soccer teams are the only teams left from the Southeast Conference.
The boys and girls have both moved on the second round of their playoff bracket.
For the boys, 12-4, it's a third meeting with SEC foe Fort Madison, 13-5, for a spot in the regional final.
The girls, 10-6, will face-off with Solon, 15-3, in their match.
On the boys’ side, it’s going to be a tough match.
The Bloodhounds have already beaten the Demons twice this season, 3-1 and 2-1, and currently hold a seven game win streak against Washington.
We’ll see if Washington can rewrite the script.
Fredy Aguilar and Emanuel Raymundo each have 12 goals for Washington.
Will Gilchrist Brock has 43 saves on the season.
For Fort Madison, Mitchell Pothitakis is the leading scorer with 26 goals, along with 22 assists.
Reiburn Turnbull has 37 saves in goal.
Should the Demons win they will take on either Pella or Oskaloosa for a shot at state.
The Demon boys played the Bloodhounds on Monday. As of press time that game has not finished.
On the girls side, it’s a tough Solon squad the Demons will see.
Solon has only lost three games all season long and have currently won six straight, which includes the defeat of Mid-Prairie in first round action.
Washington has all the tools to get the job done and the Demons are coming off a brilliant victory over Central Lee, 3-2, in the first round.
Giselle Marcelino leads the Demons with 25 goals scored and Greta Rothe follows with 23 of her own.
Elyse Hunt has 191 saves on the season for Washington.
Morgan Link is Solon’s leading goal scorer with 22 and eight assists.
The winner of Tuesday’s match will take on either Van Meter, 9-5, or Centerville, 11-6, in the regional final.
