MT. PLEASANT — Washington and Mt. Pleasant boys soccer squared off for the first time this season on Thursday night.
The Demons, who have had a hot streak against the Panthers in the past few years, won their fifth straight game in meetings between the two squads, 5-0.
With the victory, it’s three straight wins to start the season for Washington. The Demons have yet to give up a goal, outscoring opponents 22-0.
Mt. Pleasant moves back to .500 after a 1-0 start to the season.
Washington kept the pressure up all game long on the offensive end and combined that with some tight knit defense on the opposite end.
Mt. Pleasant created a number of chances throughout the game, but the Panthers were never able to find the back of net.
Just a minute into the game, Washington’s Fredy Aguilar off a pass from Emanuel Raymundo put the Demons’ first points on the board.
For Raymundo it was just the start of a big day on the pitch.
The Demons continually put pressure on the Panther back-line, but they stood strong.
It wasn’t until 28 minutes later that the Demons slipped their second into the back of the net. Raymundo got in on the scoring off an assist from Brayan Arreola.
The two squads traded the ball back and forth through midfield, but before the half at the 37th minute, Raymundo scored his second of the day this time receiving the ball from Aguilar.
At the break, Washington held onto a 3-0 lead over Mt. Pleasant.
In the second, the Mt. Pleasant defenders did well once again to give the offensive attack a chance to make a comeback.
The Demons were held scoreless for over 30 minutes from the start of the half.
But in the 76th minute, Raymundo completed the hat trick with his third goal on the day, making it 4-0.
Two minutes later and Washington made it 5-0 off an Aguilar goal and a Raymundo assist to seal it.
Washington took a total of 28 shot in the game, with 17 on target.
The Demon’s Arreola and Raymundo are creating a lot of offense this season. Currently, the two have career assists of 18 and 17. Both of those numbers are Washington records.
Washington head coach Sally Hart said she continues to be proud of how the team performs.
“I continue to be impressed with the work ethic and teamwork of this team,” Hart said. “We know Monday against Fort Madison will be tough, but we're looking forward to it.”
