Both of the Washington-Keokuk prep soccer games went the way of the Demons on Monday. The Demon boys flew 7-0 at Keokuk, and the Demon girls won 4-1 at home.
The Washington boys’ team scored early and often. Just four minutes into the game, DaShaun Westphal-Edwards scored the first of three first-half goals off an assist by Emanuel Raymundo.
Fredy Aguilar and Raymundo each had one more goal before the half was up, and it just got better from there for the visiting Demons.
In the 57th minute, Joshua Perez scored his only goal of the game, off an assist from Aguilar. Then, Edwin Cortes scored twice in the 62nd minute, once off an assist from Aguilar, and once off an assist from Raymundo.
The final goal of the day went to Angel Mata, who scored in the 70th minute.
Will Gilchrist-Brock pitched a shut out in net for the Demons. He saved four shots.
In Washington, the Demon girls won their sixth game in seven tries, beating the Chiefs by three goals. Washington held a 3-1 lead at halftime, and tacked one on in the second half.
The Demon girls at one point led 2-0 on goals by Jocelyn Carter and Maya Murphy. Then, leading 2-1, late in the opening period, Alex Murphy scored the third to give the Demons another two-goal lead.
The Washington boys are now 5-1 overall and 3-1 in conference play. The Demon girls are 6-1 overall and also hold a 3-1 SEC record. Both teams will play Burlington on Thursday, with the boys hosting the Grayhounds and the girls traveling.
