Washington soccer teams done in by Burlington

BURLINGTON — It was a tough night for Demon offense in a pair of Southeast Conference soccer games at Burlington on Monday night.
The Grayhounds won two defensive struggles against the Demons. The Burlington boys edged Washington 2-1 in double overtime. The Demon girls failed to play spoiler as Burlington’s 2-0 win clinched a share of the conference title for the Grayhounds.

The Demon boys outshot Burlington 16-7, but the Grayhounds had the goals when it counted.
The boys’ game went into overtime at 1-1, and after a scoreless first frame, Burlington drew a foul in the penalty box, setting up the match-winning penalty kick.
Burlington’s Braden Schoene knocked in the golden goal, which helped Burlington jump to a second-place tie with Washington in the final SEC standings.
In the girls’ game, Burlington scored one goal each in the first and second half to upend the Demons.
Burlington needed a win on the girls’ side to keep pace with Fort Madison, who upended Mt. Pleasant in overtime on Monday night. The Grayhounds and Bloodhounds will share the conference crown.
