The Washington soccer teams had a couple of chances to put a dent into a strong Fort Madison soccer season on Thursday, but the Bloodhound defense was too tight in a pair of Southeast Conference games.
The Demon boys tried their luck against the first-place Bloodhounds in a game that would have given Washington a share of first place, but Fort Madison sneaked by 3-1. The girls fell 1-0.
Washington trailed 2-0 at halftime of the boys’ contest at Washington Wellness park. The Demons put in one goal in the second half when David Sevilla scored off an assist from Emanuel Raymundo, but the Hounds tacked on one more of their own.
Will Gilchrist Brock saved five shots for the Demons in net. Joshua Perez, Erick Ortez Jr., Freddy Aguilar and Sevilla each had one shot on goal.
On the girls’ side, Washington had six shots on goal to Fort Madison’s five, but Bloodhound senior Coree James had the lone score of the day, putting one in during the second half.
Greta Rothe and Alex Murphy co-led the Demon girls with two shots on goal apiece. Elyse Hunt made six saves in net.
