Washington soccer had a great start to the week, closing Monday night with a pair of wins over Southeast Conference rival Keokuk.
After a slow start it was all Demons as the boys picked up a 10-1 victory at home, while the girls went on the road and walked away with a 3-0 win.
Despite the lopsided score, the Demons boys’ found themselves down 1-0 after a Keokuk goal in the 14th minute.
The Chiefs' lead didn’t last long as a goal from Edwin Cortes off a through ball from Isaac Gentry four minutes later tied the game and opened the flood gates.
A few seconds later, Gentry notched himself a goal from the penalty spot as the Chiefs were called for handball.
They could not be stopped after that as goals from Manny Raymundo and Bill De La Rosa each scored before the half to make it 4-1.
In the second half, Brayan Arreola scored twice hitting the back of the net in the opening minutes and once more in the final 10 minutes.
Raymundo and Cortes each scored a second, while Angel Mata and Randy Huertero each put points on the board as well.
The win marks the Demons fifth straight as they improve to 7-1 in SEC play and 9-2 on the season.
As for the Washington girls, once they got the lead they wouldn’t lose it.
Maya Murphy kicked started the Demons’ scoring from a nice delivery from Audrey Anderson to make it 1-0.
Washington scored once more in the first half as Angie Anderson extended the lead to 2-0 before the half.
It was more than enough to get the job done, but Washington added some insurance as Anderson slipped one into the net off a pass from Jocelyn Carter.
Washington moves to 3-5 in conference action and 4-7 on the season.
