Washington softball eliminated at No. 2 Assumption
Demons held to just two hits in 3A Region 8 semifinal shutout to Knights

DAVENPORT — Washington softball did everything they could against Assumption on Saturday night in the pairs Class 3A Region 8 semifinal, but it proved to be the Knights night.
The No. 2 team in Class 3A scored in just two of the seven innings, but walked away with a 7-0 victory over the No. 14 Demons.
The tone was set early.
Washington went three up three down in the top of the first inning with a pair of strikeouts and then Assumption responded with its biggest scoring inning of the night.
In their half of the first, the Knights sent all nine batters to the plate.
With five of the nine notching hits, including a two RBI double and a pair of RBI singles, they led 4-0 after just one inning.
Washington continued to battle at the plate, but couldn’t find a spark.
Eight grader Colbie Greiner gave the Demons their first hit of the game with a single to lead of the second, but three straight outs followed.
Greiner’s hit was just one of two for the Demons in the game.
Freshman Leighton Salazar was the only other Demon to pick up a hit in the game, which came in the sixth inning.
Meanwhile, the Knights added another trio of runs in the third off four hits to make it 7-0.
Those were the final runs of the game as both squads made some spectacular plays in the field through the final four innings of action.
The Demons never sent more than four players to the plate through each of the seven innings.
In the circle, Isabella Salazar gave up seven runs (six earned) on nine hits.
Colbie Greiner pitched three innings as well giving up one hit.
With the loss, Washington ends its season at 24-13.
Washington loses one senior in Haley Mitchell.
