FORT MADISON — Washington softball matchup with Fort Madison on Monday night in an Southeast Conference doubleheader.
It was a tough outing for the Demons as they were defeated in each of the games 11-1 and 8-2.
In the first of the two games, Fort Madison lead 2-0 after the first inning. After a scoreless second, the Bloodhounds added four more in the third to make 6-0.
Washington scored its first run in the fourth, but the damage had been done and the Bloodhounds added an additional five runs in the sixth.
In the final game of the two game series, the Demons trailed 3-1 after one. Washington brought it to within one by the end of the second, trailing 3-2.
Not to Washington’s favor, Fort Madison would be the only team to cross home plate again.
After stagnant third and fourth innings, the Bloodhounds pulled away in fifth with five runs of which the Demons could never make up.
Washington drops to 3-9 on the season and 2-2 in SEC play. The Demons will take on conference leader Burlington (5-2, 3-0) on Wednesday.
