Washington softball splits with Fort Madison

FORT MADISON — In Southeast Conference softball, Washington lost its first game against Fort Madison 8-4 Monday but rebounded with a 5-2 victory with a spark from Kellie Dallmeyer’s bat blasting a home run.
Washington scored four runs in the fourth inning to take a 4-2 lead but gave up two runs in the fifth to tie and four in the sixth to lose the opener. Ava Turner had half of the Demons four hits with Ella Greiner and Bella Salazar each getting one. Salazar threw six innings with six walks, four strikeouts, eight hits and eight earned runs.
It took four runs in the seventh inning to win the nightcap.
Dallmeyer had a single to go with her fifth homer this season. Cameron Malichky batted in two runs and Halle Cuddeback one.
Washington is 8-4 in the SEC, 14-13 overall. Fort Madison is 6-13, 3-7.
