KNOXVILLE — The Washington softball team was stifled by Knoxville in a nonconference doubleheader on Wednesday night. The Demons scored just twice all night, falling 4-2 in Game 1 and 12-0 in a three-inning Game 2.
Washington kept it close in Game 1. After a Knoxville run in the first inning, Washington tied it up with one of their own in the second. Knoxville added three more in the fourth to take a 4-1 lead, but the Demons did cut into that a bit with one in the sixth.
Leighton Salazar went 2-for-4 in Game 1, the only Demon with multiple hits. RyLee Fishback went 1-for-2 with an RBI. Emmy Wenger was 1-for-3 with an RBI, and both Olivia Hamilton and Lauren Hinrichsen collected hits.
Isabella Salazar threw all six innings in the loss, giving up four runs (three earned) on 10 hits and one walk, while striking out three batters.
Knoxville busted out the runs in Game 2, scoring eight runs in the first inning, three in the second and one in the third.
Washington had just two hits in Game 2, one each by Hamilton and Ava Turner. Halle Cuddeback and Claire Robinson both saw time in the pitcher’s circle.
