Washington softball team splits wins with Keokuk

The Washington softball team played a doubleheader at conference rival Keokuk Monday, June 5, where the two teams split wins for the night.

Keokuk took an early lead in the first game after scoring one run in the first inning.

Washington rebounded in the second inning by scoring the tying and go-ahead runs to take the lead.

Washington added an insurance run in the fourth and two more in the sixth before Keokuk would score their only other run in the bottom of the seventh giving the Demons that 5-2 win.

Haylee Wilson scored twice in the game with Jessie Buchholz, Kaitlyn Mitchell and Megan Mitchell having one run each.

Molly Sparks received the win as pitcher allowing the two runs to score on 10 hits while striking out two.

Keokuk started off the second game like they did the first one as they put up a run in the first inning.

However, the rest of the game wouldn?t be the same as Keokuk scored three more runs in the third inning, adding to their lead.

Both Washington and Keokuk had one run each in the fifth inning and Washington added two more in the seventh, but it wasn?t enough as Keokuk would hold on to get the 5-3 win.

Buchholz scored twice for Washington in the second game and Kellie Dallmeyer had the other run.

Alexa Mitchell was on the mound for Washington, giving up the five runs on eight hits while striking out three.

Washington next plays Thursday, June 8, at home in a conference doubleheader against Mt. Pleasant starting at 5:30 p.m.
