Washington softball team sweeps Fort Madison
The Washington softball team pulled off a sweep at Fort Madison Friday, May 26, after winning the first game 9-8 and the second one 10-6.

The Washington softball team pulled off a sweep at Fort Madison Friday, May 26, after winning the first game 9-8 and the second one 10-6.
The first game would remain scoreless until the bottom of the third when Fort Madison put up five runs to take the lead.
Washington responded in the top of the fourth to tie the game at five, but Fort Madison would add two more in the bottom of the fourth to regain the lead putting the score at 5-7 after four.
Washington scored a run in the fifth inning to trail by one and scored three more in the sixth to take the lead 9-7.
Fort Madison worked on its recovery, but was held back to only scoring one run giving Washington the win.
Morgan Brinning led the team with three runs in the game and scoring once each were Jessie Buchholz, Haylee Wilson, Megan Mitchell, Kinsey Duwa, Kaitlyn Mitchell and Hannah Anderson.
Molly Sparks got the win as she walked four and struck out nine from Fort Madison.
Washington started off the second game by scoring two runs, but Fort Madison made sure they wanted to put runs on the board as they put up three to have a one-run lead.
The score wouldn?t change until the fifth inning when Washington scored five runs to take a 7-3 lead.
Both teams scored three runs in the sixth inning. With no additional runs in the seventh, Washington took the win and sweep 10-6.
Megan Mitchell, Sydney Clark and Anderson each scored two runs in the game.
Buchholz, Brinning, Duwa and Brooke Stout each had one run.
Alexa Mitchell was on the mound for Washington where she gave up the six runs on six hits, walking one and striking out five.
The girls next play Thursday, June 1, at home against Fairfield. Game time is 5:30 p.m.
