WASHINGTON - The Washington boys and girls track teams protected the home stadium on Thursday night at the Demons’ annual co-ed relays. Both Demon squads came away with team victories.
The Washington girls had to fight past conference rival Mt. Pleasant for the title, scoring 151 points to Mt. Pleasant’s 121.33. The boys scored 98, outlasting a very evenly-matched field.
Washington’s Iris Dahl was the champion in the girls’ 1500-meter run. Leighton Messinger won the high jump, and Jaslyn Villa won the long jump for three individual victories.
Washington’s shuttle hurdle team took first place on the girls’ side. The Demon girls also won the 4X400-meter relay.
On the boys’ side, Tyler Alderton won the 3200. Greyson Hartman was first in the shot put and discus, and the 4X100 team grabbed the Demons’ lone boys relay win.
The Mt. Pleasant girls were led by Alex Scott, who won both the 100-meter dash and the 200-meter dash. The Panthers had a great day in the sprint relays as well, winning both the 4X100 and 4X200.
The Trojan girls picked up one win on the night. Lilly Bergren won the 100-meter hurdles.
Fairfield’s only win on the boys’ side came in the long jump. Eli Zillman took the top spot in that event.
WACO’s Hayden Shelman nipped Washington’s Kael Williams right at the line in the 200-meter dash. The Warriors also won the 1600, as Jude Dykstra battled to the finish line.
The WACO girls won two events. Carlee Lunsford won the 800, and the Warriors took first in the distance medley.
