WASHINGTON — Washington softball capped off the regular season on Monday with a doubleheader finale against Louisa-Muscatine.
The Demons (23-12) ended the season on a high note to say the least as they were winners in the pair 12-2 and 6-4.
In game one, the Demons were red-hot from the opening inning.
Washington scored two runs in the bottom of the first frame before adding five more in the second to build a commanding 8-0 lead.
The damage wasn’t done there though as the Demons went on to add four more runs in the fifth to bring their total to 12.
Louisa-Muscatine (14-14) got on the board with one each in the top of the fourth and fifth, but after Washington’s quartet of runs the game sat at 12-2.
Leighton Salazar finished 4-for-4 with two triples and an RBI in the win.
Ella Greiner went 3-for-3 with five RBIs. Alyvia Anderson ended 3-or-3 with four RBIs.
Colbie Greiner went 2-for-4 with two RBIs, while both Haley Mitchell and Kendall Hinrichsen tallied one hit.
Isabella Salazar pitched five innings, giving up two runs (two earned) on six hits and one strikeout.
Washington held the reins to the game once again for much of game two, but a rally by Louisa-Muscatine was nearly completed in the final two frames.
The Demons scored a pair in the bottom of the first and after two scoreless innings made it 6-0 after plating three in the fourth and one in the fifth.
However, the Falcons never let up.
Louisa-Muscatine put one on the board in the sixth and followed with three more in the seventh to cut it to two, 6-4.
That is as close as the Falcons would come as the Demons were able to hold on for the victory.
Colbie Greiner went 2-for-2 in the game with a home run and three RBIs. Ella Greiner finished 2-for-4 with two RBIs.
Leighton Salazar also finished with a pair of hits.
Haley Mitchell, Lauren Hinrichsen, Isabella Salazar and Emery Walton all finished with hits as well.
Colbie Greiner pitched five innings, allowing just three hits with two strikeouts. Halle Cuddeback threw two innings, allowing four runs (two earned) on two hits and one strikeout.
After the pair of wins, the Demons now have their sights set on Central Lee (20-8) in the Class 3A Region 8 quarterfinal round.
