Washington to battle No. 4 Mount Vernon
Demons set for 3A District 4 matchup with Mustangs

MT. VERNON — Washington will face one of its toughest tests of the season this week, when the Demons meet the No. 4 Mustangs of Mount Vernon on the gridiron.
The Demons had been in a bit of a slump, up until a win over Mt. Pleasant two weeks ago.
Last week the Demons took on another ranked opponent in No. 8 Davenport Assumption. The Demons fell to the Knights, 35-0.
Meanwhile, Mount Vernon has been on a hot streak.
Since losing to Solon, the 2022 state runners-up have won three straight, which includes victories over Mt. Pleasant, Davenport Assumption and Fort Madison.
Logan McDole leads Washington with 718 passing yards and six touchdowns. He also has another 343 yards on the rushing side of things with three scores.
Kael Williams has a team-high 478 yards rushing with seven touchdowns. Casen Evans also has one score for Washington.
In receiving, Mason Morgan has 302 total yards with four touchdowns. Conner Leyden follows with 145 yards and one touchdowns. Jayfred Espinosa has one touchdown as well with 83 yards.
Four other Demons have over 50 yards receiving, in Luke Beenblossom, McDole, Oliver Hobscheidt and Alec Ulin.
Defensively, Evans leads with 52 tackles. Ulin has 32.5 tackles as well.
For Mount Vernon, Joey Rhomberg has amassed 1,562 yards and 15 touchdowns.
Jackson Hird has 467 yards on the ground with three touchdowns.
On the ground, Evan Brase has 740 yards and seven touchdowns on 36 catches.
Defensively, Jackson Jaspers leads with a team-high 42.5 tackles with 4.5 sacks and 9.5 tackles for a loss.
