The Demons continue to rise in the Cedar Rapids Gazette/KGYM Radio/Southeast Iowa Union football poll. Despite forfeiting their dominant Friday win over West Liberty (note that voting took place before the forfeiture), the Demons are up to seventh, tied with Sergeant Bluff-Luton.
District foe Solon rose to No. 4 in the poll, putting District 6 in good standing heading into league play. The Demons and Spartans are scheduled to play on Oct. 4, so if they can take care of their respective Lee County foes this weekend, it will set up one of the most hyped games in the class.
After its overtime loss to Lone Tree, New London dropped out of the Class 8-Man rankings. The Tigers are still getting votes, receiving seven points in the poll. District 4 foes Montezuma and Iowa Valley are also listed, with Montezuma coming in at No. 10, and Iowa Valley receiving four votes.
The Class 1A poll didn't move, which is bad news for a Sigourney-Keota team that stayed unbeaten with a 39-point win over Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont. The Cobras received four votes.
Cardinal picked up two votes in the Class A poll. That came after a 49-12 shelling of North Mahaska last week. The Comets are also 4-0 as all the Class A through Class 4A teams head into district play.
