Washington, Van Buren County compete at Anamosa
Demons grab one win, Warriors go winless in the Blue Raiders tournament

ANAMOSA — Washington and Van Buren County volleyball both took a trip to Anamosa on Saturday to compete in the Blue Raiders annual tournament.
Both squads played tough competition as the Demons won just one game through the day, while the Warriors ended without a win.
Host No. 10 (Class 3A) Anamosa, along with No. 1 (Class 4A) Clear Creek-Amana, Maquoketa Valley, Northeast, Bellevue and No. 5 (Class 1A) Edgewood-Colesburg all took part in the tournament.
Washington played a total of five games in the tournament.
The Demons kicked off the tournament against the hosts. Washington put up a good fight against the Blue Raiders but fell in a pair of sets, 21-19 and 21-11.
In their next match, the Demons took on Bellevue. Washington also suffered a 2-0 loss in the match, 21-12 and 21-11.
The next bout was a turnaround for the Demons as they picked up what would be their sole victory on the day.
Washington won back-to-back sets against Van Buren County after the Warriors took the opening frame 21-18.
The Demons won the second 21-12 and the third 15-6.
In their final two matches of the day, Washington squared off against Northeast and Maquoketa Valley.
Washington was able to take one set in both fixtures but was defeated 2-1 in each.
The Demons were upended by the Rebels 8-21, 21-15, 10-15.
Maquoketa Valley got the better of Washington 21-18, 17-21 and 7-15.
As for Van Buren County, the Warriors fell to Anamosa in straight sets, 21-14 and 21-13.
Clear Creek-Amana put together a dominant performance with a 21-6, 21-8 win over the Warriors.
Along with the loss to Washington, Van Buren County fell to Maquoketa Valley 22-20, 21-12; Northeast 21-18, 21-15; and Edgewood-Colesburg 21-12, 21-6.
