WASHINGTON — While Washington volleyball lost six seniors in 2021, they return a lot of talent this fall.
Seniors Alex Murphy and Haley Mitchell will lead the Demons throughout the 2022 season. Murphy led the way in the kill department and Mitchell rounded up the most assists in the setter position back in 2021.
Senior Kenializ Espinoza also will be an important piece on the offensive attack. Espinoza was also big on the defensive end, finishing with the second most digs on the team last time around.
The Demons bring back 11 players to the varsity squad, which includes three seniors, four juniors, four sophomores and doesn’t account for the incoming freshman class.
In the early 2022 season, the freshman have proved to varsity ready, playing a multitude of minutes.
After a tough start to the season in which the Demons lost 13 straight, they started to find their groove late.
The Demons showed that they can compete with the best in the Southeast Conference taking Mt. Pleasant the distance a number of occasions and even defeating SEC runner-up Fairfield once.
Washington has the tangibles to fight for the league this season.
