BURLINGTON — The competition was larger schools and the margin was smaller, but Washington still blasted other teams Thursday at the Grayhound Invitational girls golf tournament.
Meet medalist Kiki Bruner and runner-up Anna Nacos shot 75 each. Nacos was even going into the last three holes and went 4-over, “so that was kind of upsetting.”
Makenna Conrad had a 84 and Josie Tanner 88 for the Demons.
“I had to improvise because of the wind that came up,” Conrad said. “What saved me and kept me low was around the green. Definitely.”
Conrad had her lowest round since a 76 at Keokuk.
“I knew there were going to be a lot better teams here than we usually play in our conference, so it was nice knowing that I could contribute and give them a good score.”
Fairfield shot 406 with Viola Welsh at 97, Kate Pettit 100, Sara Kretz 105 and Myah Twohill 104.
Mt. Pleasant had a 422 behind Samantha Wibben and Elli Liechty, who each had 102. Kylie Walderbach shot 105 and Ryann Davidson 113.
