A handful of area teams battled it out in tournaments around the state this weekend, one of which being the Washington Demons.
Washington was coming off a win at Fairfield on Tuesday night, and the Demons found some more success on Saturday, knocking off Davenport North, Danville and Muscatine at the West Liberty tournament.
The Demons swept Davenport North 21-13 and 21-11, and Danville 21-6, 22-20. Washington scrapped to beat Muscatine in three sets. Washington did take losses to both Cedar Rapids Kennedy and hosting West Liberty.
The Cardinal volleyball team also hosted its home tournament this weekend, and Van Buren County went 4-0 to win the championship. The Warriors swept Highland (25-20, 25-21), Twin Cedars (25-15, 25-15) and Cardinal (25-21, 25-21) setting up a huge showdown against Hillcrest Academy.
Hillcrest, winners of the Keota tournament earlier this fall, came into the game against VBC having swept both Cardinal (27-25, 25-18) aand Highland (25-15, 25-19).
In the big showdown, VBC came back after losing the opener 25-22, taking out the Ravens 25-19 and 15-9 in the next two games.
