Washington wins at home, on road

Washington High School improved its girls basketball record to 2-1 with a home win Saturday over Solon 37-35.

'Kira Ropp Ppayed another good game on the inside again for us,” WHS coach Shannon Rugg said. 'She is starting to become a force in there for us. All of our bigs played really good for us. Ropp, Olivia Pacha, Phelan Hostetler and Addison Six did a great job of controlling the paint. I thought our guards did a great job against their press and getting the ball inside. i think it was the first time Washington has defeated Solon in seven years. I think that the girls are gaining a lot of confidence in themselves and each other.”

Ropp had 10 points on 5 of 8 shooting and eight rebounds. Haylee Wilson put up eight points and took down five boards.

Washington 54, Muscatine 38

After losing at Iowa City Liberty 63-55 Tuesday, Washington's boys basketball team won its first game of the season Friday, sprinting to an early lead of 16-5 after the first quarter at Muscatine on the way to victory.

Trevor Quigley scored 15 against Liberty and Luke Turner added 11 points, seven assists and six rebounds.

Mid-Prairie 63, West Liberty 51

After losing at Tipton Friday, Mid-Prairie's boys won on the road Saturday behind Tom Butters (18 points and seven rebounds), Cale Robertson (16 points on 4 of 5 3-pointers and eight rebounds) and Dominic Pickard (14 points). Brad Tornow handed out eight assists.

Against Tipton, Robertson had 13 points while Butters had 14 rebounds.

Mid-Prairie 52, Tipton 46

The Golden Hawk girls remained unbeaten in three games with Friday's road win.

Maddie Nonnenmann put up 13 points and Shae Becker 10 with eight rebounds and five assists. Myah Lugar added 11 points while Kessa Jones grabbed eight rebounds.

West Burlington 70, WACO 58

After winning their opener, WACO's boys dropped a home game Friday to the Falcons.

Drew Kissell scored 17 points in the 43-32 win over Wapello Tuesday. Kissell and Nik Coble each scored 13 Friday

West Burlington 51, WACO 19

The WACO girls fell to 0-3 with the Friday loss. Laney graber, Grace Conwell and Mayson Lee scored five points apiece.

Mediapolis 62, Highland 51

The Huskies lost to the Class 2A's 13th-ranked girls team Friday at Mediapolis after a home loss Thursday 56-51 to Holy Trinity.

Aly Stokes scored 19 with 15 rebounds and Abbie Miller added 15 points and 10 rebounds against Mediapolis. Sarah Schmeider had 11 points.

Against Holy Trinity, Stokes and Schneider each scored 15 with Miller netting 12. Miller snagged 13 boards and Stokes 12. Alyssa Brase had four assists.

Highland 63, Mediapolis 60

The Huskies boys team improved to 2-0 with the Friday road win. Thursday was a home win, 65-35, over Holy Trinity.

Louisa-Muscatine 73, Iowa Mennonite School 47

IMS lost on the road despite Suzanna Yoder's 30 points, six assists, five steals and four rebounds. Mia Graber added eight points and five rebounds.

Iowa Mennonite School 73, Louisa-Muscatine 41

At Letts, IMS led 12-6 after a quarter and 35-11 at halftime.

Keota 49, Lone Tree 20

The Eagles won a girls road game Thursday behind Jill Schulte (15 points), Addison Sprouse (13 points and five assists) and Paige Thompson (11 points and six rebounds).
