WASHINGTON — Washington wrestling has battled hard through the season thus far.
On Thursday night, Washington put together one of its best performances on the season, putting it on the Chiefs of Keokuk 58-18.
The Demons gave up just three matches on the night.
Right out the gate, the Demon’s Layne Moore took the 132 pound match by forfeit to go up 6-0.
A match later at 138, Jack Kleese was bested by the Chiefs Tate O’Shea by fall in 3:25 to tie the match 6-6.
In the three ensuing matches, at 145, 152 and 160 it was all Washington.
Jude Carter took the 145 bout over Anthony Stice by fall in 1:21. Lane Schrock was the 152 winner, pinning Luke Meyers in 1:42. Chase Greiner pinned Khaos Martin in 1:27 to take the 160 title.
The trio of victories put Washington up 24-6.
Keokuk got six points back at 170 as the Demons forfeited the match.
At 182 and 195 Sam Mason-Goff and Curtis Stender were both winners by forfeit.
Both team forfeited the 220 match.
Colley Billingsly and Nate Edmonds made quick work of their opponents in the 285 and 106 matches.
Billingsly won by fall in 57 seconds over Micah Kay and Edmonds pinned Jayce High in just 35 seconds.
Keokuk’s last victory on the night came in the form of Xaiver Nelson at 113, as he defeated Jace Sanders in 1:47 by fall.
Washington rounded out its night with Aaron Boone taking the 120 pound match by forfeit and Caden Greiner took care of Robert Howes by major decision 19-8 at 126.
The dual marks the last for the Demons before Christmas break.
“It’s the end of the beginning so to speak,” Washington head coach Brent Van Weelden said. “Next week we go on Christmas break and we get a few days off. We got to build them back up a bit. It’s kind of a challenge, but we gotta be ready because we face Fort Madison right out of the shoot. I think we’re right where we need to be though. I’m real proud of them.”
