WASHINGTON — Two runs given up in the first inning, no problem. Tie the nonconference game at 2-2 then give up a run in the next inning, no problem. Just score three in the bottom of the fifth inning and add an insurance run in the sixth.
That is what the Washington softball team did to defeat visiting Centerville Wednesday 6-3.
It helped that Kellie Dallmeyer hit her third home run of the season for the Demons while Emmy Wenger and Olivia Hamilton each hit a double and Ava Turner went 2-for-3.
Halle Cuddeback pitched an inning and Isabella Salazar threw six for the win. She had seven strikeouts, a walk and seven hits. the one run that scored was unearned.
Washington has a record of 11-12 while Centerville is 4-12.
Washington’s Ava Turner is not distracted by the two Durant runners to make the play at first base in the 8-4 win May 31. Wednesday June 16, 2021, Turner went 2-for-3 in a 6-3 win over Centerville. (Doug Brenneman/Union)
