Washington wrestlers defeat Keokuk by fall and forfeit

The Demon wrestling team improved its dual team record to 11-1 with a road victory over Keokuk on Thursday.

Half of the 14 matches were conceded by forfeit, five by Keokuk, one by Washington and a double forfeit at 126 pounds. Washington won three of the seven head-to-head match-ups, all by fall.

? We came out a little flat and not really ready to wrestle,? said Demon Coach Brent Van Weelden. ?As coaches we need to find ways to make sure our kids are prepared.?

The Demons? David Hora notched a first period pin in 1:36. Logan Escher and Tanner Murphy each disposed of their opponents with second period falls in 3:10 and 3:13 respectively.

?Logan Escher proved that he can come out and take several shots and score. This is something we had not seen out of him before,? continued Van Weelden.

Keokuk won the remaining four matches with a fall, major, and two decisions.

Despite losses, Van Weelden complemented a couple of the performances; ?Dillan Sanders and Dylan Farmer came out and battled for the team.?

Washington travels to Waukee Saturday to participate in the Al Garrison Duals. The tournament features five ranked teams and 46 ranked individual wrestlers, including Washington?s Tristin Westphal-Edwards (No. 4) and Walker Ikerd (No. 5).
