Washington wrestling earns three titles at L-M Invite
Other winners from Saturday’s boys and girls wrestling tournaments

Washington wrestling had a productive showing Saturday at the Louisa-Muscatine Invite. The Demons crowed a pair of champions on the boys side and a first-place finisher in the girls tournament.
Junior Blaine Rees and senior Caden Greiner took home titles in their respective weight classes. Rees became a champion in the 190-pound bracket, pinning Keokuk’s Jarod Anderson in just 35 seconds to win the title.
Greiner finished first in the 138-pound bracket. He won a major decision 14-4 over Louisa-Muscatine’s Eddie Hoopes.
Washington also had fourth place finishes from Clayton Bartholomew at 132 pounds and Junior Valdez at 150 pounds. Johan Recendez earned a fifth place finish in the 120- pound bracket and Caden Heisner took fifth at 157.
On the girls side, Ryha Wellington represented Washington with a first place finish in 140-pound bracket. Wellington defeated North Scott’s Bryn Stephens with a fall in 3:09 to take the title.
The Washington girls team had three other place winners. Nora Stoutner (115 pounds), Bella Venenga (145) and Colbie Greiner (155) each took fifth place in their respective brackets.
Fairfield also had a girls champion with Samantha Lyons winning the 170-pound bracket. Lyons defeated Burlington’s Macy Peterson with a fall in 57 seconds in the championship match.
Kendra Allison took second place in the 235-pound bracket for the Trojan girls team. June Connor finished third at 100 pounds.
The Fairfield boys team competed in the Williamsburg Raider Invitational. Dain Burkhart was the Trojans lone champion at 175 pounds, defeating Noah Nickol of Western Dubuque with a fall in 1:58.
Cael McCabe finished second in the 113-pound bracket for the Trojans. Hayden Bowman finished fourth at 126 and the Trojans had thee fifth place finishers with Kohda Higdon (120), Dusty Haynes (150) and Aiden Holthus (157).
The Mt. Pleasant boys team also competed in the Williamsburg Invite. The Panthers did not have a champion, but Levi Evans finished second in the 120-pound bracket and Lane Beckler took second at 126.
In other boys tournament action Saturday, Highland’s Rocky Hamilton was also a champion at 138 pounds, winning the Kurt Hinschberger Invitational at Belle Plaine. Hamilton defeated William Sankot of Belle Plaine in a major decision 13-5.
Ian Maize of WACO won the 113-pound bracket at the same event. Maize pinned Logan-Magnolia’s Brodie Johnsen in 34 seconds in the championship match.
Sigourney-Keota had a pair of champions at the North Tama Redhawk Invitational. Ryker Van den Huevel took the 138-pound bracket and Dillion Menke was a champion at 165 pounds. The Savages came out on top in team scoring with 120.5 points.
Karley Greiner earned a title for Sigourney-Keota on the girls side, winning the 155-pound bracket at the Colfax Mingo Tournament on Saturday. Sigourney-Keota took third in team scoring with 143 points.
