Washington wrestling team takes fourth at Solon
The Washington wrestling team took part in the Ed Hadenfeldt Invitational Saturday, Jan. 14, where the team finished in fourth place.
Kyle Anderson (126) and Karlton Skubal (195) both ended the day in second place.
Coming away with a third place finish was Garrett Ikerd (113) as was Andrew Waite (138) and Tristin Westphal-Edwards (160). All other wrestlers finished with places on the podium as well.

The Washington wrestling team took part in the Ed Hadenfeldt Invitational Saturday, Jan. 14, where the team finished in fourth place.
Kyle Anderson (126) and Karlton Skubal (195) both ended the day in second place.
Coming away with a third place finish was Garrett Ikerd (113) as was Andrew Waite (138) and Tristin Westphal-Edwards (160). All other wrestlers finished with places on the podium as well.
Mitchell Huisenga (285) ended in fourth place, Logan Escher (170) came in fifth place, Alex Latcham (132) finished in seventh place and Kiowa Keith (145) ended the day?s competition in eighth place.
Ikerd scored 15 points. He won the quarterfinals by a 4-3 decision over Devon Meeker from Wapello.
He lost the semifinals by an 11-4 decision to Caleb Fuessley from Center Point-Urbana.
He won the third consolation round by a 10-1 major decision over Aidan Dall from Solon and won the third place match by a 4-2 decision over Carter Weeks from Vinton-Shellsburg.
Anderson scored 19.5 points. He won the quarterfinals by a 19-3 technical fall in 4:00 over Cole Taylor from North Cedar.
He won the semifinals by a 9-2 decision over Ryne Mohrfeld from Lisbon and lost the first place match to Drew West from Solon by fall in 0:38.
Latcham scored nine points. He won the championship round by fall in 2:42 over Christian Haight from Solon. He lost the quarterfinals by a 15-2 major decision to Cooper Siebrecht from Lisbon.
He lost the second consolation round by a 5-4 decision to Dominick Morris from Albia before winning the third consolation round by fall in 0:36 over Blair Noble from Wapello.
He faced Haight again, this time in the seventh place match, where he won by a 6-0 decision.
Waite scored 19 points for the day. He won the championship round by fall over Cameron Garnett from Center Point-Urbana in 0:52. He lost the quarterfinals by a 7-5 decision to Quinn Murphy from Clear Creek-Amana.
He won the second consolation round by fall over Zach Wright from West Branch in 1:26. He won the third consolation round by a 7-5 decision over David Morris from Albia and won the third place match by fall over Murphy in 1:43.
Keith scored six points for the day. He won the championship round by fall over Remington Starube from Center Point-Urbana by fall in 4:31.
He lost the quarterfinals by a 14-5 major decision to Austin Beaver from West Liberty. He lost the second consolation round by fall in 1:09 to Scott Betterson from Vinton-Shellsburg.
He won the third consolation round by a 9-2 decision over Joe Lovan from Solon and lost the seventh place match by fall to Colton LaGrange from Cedar Rapids Prairie in 2:00.
Westphal-Edwards scored 17 points. He won the quarterfinals by a 10-2 major decision over Morgan Hood from Cedar Rapids Prairie.
He lost the semifinals by fall in 5:35 to Jacob Krakow from Iowa Valley. He won the third consolation round by an 8-0 major decision over Kyle Sinnott from Albia.
He won the third place match by a 10-2 major decision over Rogan Pforts from Wapello.
Logan Escher scored 15 points. He won the championship round by fall over Ryan Geistkemper from Solon in 5:36. He won the quarterfinals by fall in 2:24 over Hayes Diersen from Solon. He lost the semifinals by fall in 3:29 to Kort Johnson from Vinton-Shellsburg.
He lost the third consolation round by a 6-2 decision to Joe Baker from West Liberty and won the fifth place match by fall over Diersen in 2:58.
Murphy scored six team points for the day. He lost the quarterfinals by an 8-2 decision to Jackson Gingerich from West Liberty. He won the second consolation round by fall in 1:59 over Patrick Campbell from Center Point-Urbana.
He lost the third consolation round in the first tie breaker 2-1 to Ben Mason from Albia and lost the fifth place match to Gingerich by fall in 2:51.
Skubal scored 22 team points. He won the quarterfinals by fall over Jordan Jacobus from Cedar Rapids Prairie in 0:28. He won the semifinals by fall over Jayson Krakow from Iowa Valley in 1:12 and lost the first place match to Bryce Esmoil from West Liberty by fall in 3:25.
Huisenga scored 16 points. He won the quarterfinals by fall over Grant Ries from Vinton-Shellsburg in 0:17. He lost the semifinals by a 3-1 decision to Ethan Taylor from Clear Creek-Amana.
He won the third consolation round by fall in 0:16 over Dillon Pierson from North Cedar and lost the third place match by a 9-4 decision to Andy Lopez from West Liberty.
The fifth-ranked demons next take to the mats Saturday at East Marshall High School with the first matches in the duals tournament beginning at 9 a.m.
