Washington wrestling team takes to the mats at Mount Vernon
The Washington wrestling team competed in the Mount Vernon Invitational Saturday, Dec. 10.
Tristin Westphal-Edwards (160) pinned Alex Schuster from Sigourney in 3:23 in the quarterfinals. He lost to Julien Broderson from Assumption by a 6-0 decision in the semifinals and won the third-place match over Kaden Kilburg from Lisbon by a 12-6 decision.

The Washington wrestling team competed in the Mount Vernon Invitational Saturday, Dec. 10.
Tristin Westphal-Edwards (160) pinned Alex Schuster from Sigourney in 3:23 in the quarterfinals. He lost to Julien Broderson from Assumption by a 6-0 decision in the semifinals and won the third-place match over Kaden Kilburg from Lisbon by a 12-6 decision.
Tanner Murphy (195) won over Seth Adrian from Assumption by a 1-0 decision. He lost the semifinals to Bryce Esmoil from West Liberty by fall in 3:11 and lost the third-place match to Kaleb Reeves from Sigourney by fall in 3:15.
Collin Murphy (182) won by fall in 5:45 over Joey Pearson from Marion in the championship round. He lost the quarterfinals to Hunter Connor (Louisa-Muscatine) by fall in 1:17. He won the second consolation round over Isaac Weigelt from West Marshall in 3:36 by fall.
He had an 11-3 major decision over Jackson Gingerich from West Liberty in the consolation semifinals and lost the fifth-place match to Noah Reeves from Sigourney by fall in 2:46.
Matt Collett (106) lost the quarterfinals by fall to Cobe Siebrecht from Lisbon in 2:32 and lost the consolation semifinals to Mason Dye from Sigourney by fall in 3:31.
Kyle Anderson (132) won the quarterfinals over Noah Bierman from West Liberty in 4:48. He lost the semifinals by a 17-2 technical fall in 3:36 to Matt Robertson from Assumption and won the third-place match by an 8-2 decision over Justin Light from Mount Vernon.
Logan Escher (170) lost the quarterfinals to Brock Timmons from Assumption by a 10-1 major decision. He won the consolation semifinals over Cobain Polman from West Liberty by fall in 3:51 and lost the fifth-place match by fall in 3:14 to Coy Martin from Mount Vernon.
Austin Hazelett (145) won by a 5-1 decision over Jack Buteris from Lisbon in the quarterfinals. He won the semifinals by a 6-2 decision over Paul Ryan from Mount Vernon and lost the first-place match to Caleb Conway from Marion by a 10-2 major decision.
David Hora (138) lost the quarterfinals to Justis Dengler from West Liberty by a 6-1 decision and lost the consolation semifinals by a 9-3 decision to Mitchell Engelbart from Anamosa.
Mitchell Huisenga (285) won the quarterfinals over Preston Shultz from Mount Vernon in 4:31. He won the semifinals by a 12-9 decision over Tommy Pudil from Cedar Rapids Xavier but lost the first place match to Noah Broderson from Assumption by fall in 4:42.
Walker Ikerd (113) won the quarterfinals by a 15-0 technical fall in 3:24 over Talen Dengler from West Liberty. He lost the semifinals by an 18-5 major decision to Cael Happel from Lisbon and won the third-place match over Ryan Clark from Mount Vernon by a 5-4 decision.
Lane Keeler (220) lost the quarterfinals to Jack Cochrane from Mount Vernon by fall in 0:15. He lost the consolation semifinals by fall in 0:55 to Alex Francois from Cedar Rapids Xavier.
Dillan Sanders (126) won the quarterfinals by a 5-1 decision over Timo Caro from Wapello. He lost the semifinals by fall in 0:30 to Sean Casey from Assumption and lost the third-place match to Cory Ruess from West Liberty by fall in 2:36.
Trey Van Weelden (152) won the quarterfinals by fall in 3:43 over Clayton McCoy from Lisbon. He lost the semifinals by fall in 4:15 to Colin Conway from Marion and won the third-place match by a 5-0 decision over Clayton Meeker from Wapello.
The Demon wrestling team takes to the mats at home Thursday, Dec. 15, when they are host to Keokuk beginning at 6:30 p.m., where seniors and their parents will be recognized.
