WASHINGTON — The Iowa Wrestling Coaches and Officials Association (IWCOA) selects the Iowa Boys Academic All-State Wrestling team every year following the conclusion of the state tournament.
Washington senior Aaron Boone has earned that honor.
To be eligible, wrestlers must meet specific academic and competitive criteria.
That basis includes being a junior or senior that competed in the state tournament, while also carrying a cumulative grade-point average between 3.75. and 4.00.
In Boone’s case, he met all those standards.
Boone finished out his high school wrestling career with a record of 50-4 and a third-place finish in Class 2A’s 132 pound weight class.
Wrestlers were also named to an Academic Honorable Mention team as well. Athletes must hit all the same criteria, but hold a GPA between 3.74 and 3.50.
