Washington’s archers have good day in Ottumwa

OTTUMWA - Washington High School, Washington Middle School and Lincoln Elementary all participated in the Ottumwa Bulldogs archery tournament Saturday.
In the Bullseye tournament, the high school finished first out of seven teams, with a score of 3,353. Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont was second with a 3,284 total.
Alexis Ide shot 21 10s and finished with a 289 score for the Demons. Griffin Wood had 18 10s on the way to his score of 283. Anna Miller also had a 283, but with 15 10s. Lane Frana also had 15 10s and shot a 282. Meghan Case had 16 10s in her total of 280.
Ide had the second-best total of the 69 high school girls in the tournament. Miller was fifth while Case was eighth.
Wood was seventh out of the 76 male archers. Frana was ninth.
The middle school also finished first. They scored a total of 3,137 to lead among six teams. Mt. Vernon was second with a 3,077 score.
Allison Rees had the best score of 75 middle school girls. She plugged 16 10s and finished with a 280 total. Iris Peterson was third with 10 10s on her way to a 274 total.
Cash Pepper was fifth out of 98 middle school boys with a total score of 272, hitting nine 10s. Brendan Taylor's 267 was ninth. He hit eight 10s. Curtis Stender notched nine 10s on his score of 266, good for 11th.
Lincoln Elementary took second with a score of 2,618. Cardinal Elementary won with a 2,639 score.
Isabelle Peterson registered seven 10s in her score of 248, which was third best among 61 elementary girls. Audrey Smith was fifth with five 10s in her score of 244. Hannah Klinzman's 234 was ninth. She hit six 10s. Gatlin Nash was seventh among 62 boys, shooting a 231 with four 10s. Cheyenne Amland had two 10s and a 223 score, which was 13th best among elementary girls.
In the 3D tournament, which involves shooting at animal replicas instead of a bull's-eye target, the High school was second among four teams with a score of 1,651.
Wood was fifth out of 36 boys with a 284 and 18 10s. Ide was second out of 40 girls with a 278 that included 16 10s. Samantha Mellenger's score of 274 had 10 10s, good for fifth. Cooper Reed was 11th with a score of 273 with 14 10s. Anna Miller had a 273 with 11 10s to place seventh.
Washington's middle school won the 3D tourney with a score of 1,552.
Rees was the top girl among 40 shooting as she hit 14 10s for a 276. Stender was seventh of 50 boys, connecting on 10 10s for a 263. Pepper had a 262 with 12 10s to place eighth. Makynna Morgan's score of 259 with 11 10s was third among girls. Duston Sorrels shot a 249 with five 10s to finish 16th.
Lincoln was second among four teams with a 1,252 score.
Mila Hansen's 238 with four 10s was third among 32 girls. Smith shot 234 with four 10s to place fourth. Izzy Peterson had a 227 with six 10s, placing fifth. Emma Helfrich was ninth with a 206 and one 10. Johannah Halvorson was 11th with a 187 and two 10s.
The next team tournament for Washington will be Jan. 6 at Solon High School.
