Washington's Ellingson takes third place in the high jump at state
Washington senior Sammy Ellingson matched her personal-best jump to take third place in the high jump competition at the state track meet in Des Moines on Thursday afternoon.

Washington senior Sammy Ellingson matched her personal-best jump to take third place in the high jump competition at the state track meet in Des Moines on Thursday afternoon.
Ellingson, who failed to qualify for state last year in the high jump but is a four-time Drake Relays qualifier in the event, cleared 5 feet, 4 inches to finish third in the event. She also finished third in the high jump as a freshman in 2010 when she cleared 5 feet, 3 inches.
Teammate Lauren Kimball, who was competing in the high jump at the state track meet for the second time in her career, cleared 5 feet to tie for 10
th
place. Kimball cleared 5 feet, 2 inches to place sixth last year.
The quartet of Kaitlin Buchholz, Ellingson, Emma Wood and Kimball finished 14
th
in the preliminaries of the shuttle hurdle relay on Thursday. They recorded a time of 1:10.25.
Sophomore Macy Marek finished 19
th
in the preliminaries of the 100-meter dash in 13.53 seconds, and senior Mariah Reighard came in 22
nd
in the 400-meter dash in 1:02.64.
For the Washington boys, the quartet of Jacob Hennigan, Jack Giardino, Alex Gonzalez and Gage Redlinger finished 21
st
in the preliminaries of the shuttle hurdle relay in 1:03.59.
