Washington’s Rees, Mid-Prairie’s Hostetler win Mt. Pleasant XC Invitational
Washington boys take team title, Mid-Prairie girls win girls’

MT. PLEASANT — One thing’s for certain in Southeast Iowa cross-country this season.
It’s that Washington’s Micah Rees and Mid-Prairie’s Danielle Hostetler have dominated the competition thus far.
That held true on Tuesday night in Mt. Pleasant, as the pair both picked up victories in blistering fashion.
Each also helped their squads finish atop the team results as well.
The Demons dashed to victory after posting a team low of 30 points.
Mt. Pleasant followed in the large school race with second overall and 57 points. Oskaloosa finished third with 63 points, Fort Madison fourth with 72, Fairfield took fifth with 131 and Keokuk sixth with 161.
On the small school girls’ side, Mid-Prairie took first with a low of 16.
Danville finished second with 64 points, Mediapolis had 89 points, Columbus 100 and Louisa-Muscatine 102.
The small school boys’ team standings ended with Mid-Prairie on top as well. The Golden Hawks finished with 50 points.
Mediapolis followed with 56 points. Danville had 70, Columbus 105, Winfield-Mt. Union 119, Louisa-Muscatine 128, Central Lee 176 and Holy Trinity 198.
Rees crossed the tape in 16:29.59 for the win. Teammate Tyler Alderton had a nice showing as well, taking second in 17:07.52.
Andrew Rees took fifth in 17:41.02. Lane Schrock crossed in 18:15.62 for eighth.
Kael Malichky finished 14th, Sawyer Tschantz was 16th.
For Mt. Pleasant, Ben Carthey was the highest placer. Carthey finished fourth in 17:19.00.
Jude Dykstra took sixth with a time of 18:08.43. Locken Henderson ran a 18:14.24 for seventh. Coleman Mowery was 19th, Garrett Landau was 21st, Drake Landau 29th and Gavin Slagel 32nd.
Fairfield’s Nate Konczal was a 17th place finisher with a time of 19:04.80.
Riley Perkins placed 22nd, followed by John Miller in 28th, Andrew Myers in 31st, Clae Cass 33rd and Solomon Clauson in 36th.
For the Mid-Prairie girls, Hostetler ran a 19:12.31 for the top position.
Teammate Brooklyn Stutzman placed second overall in 21:02.00. Phoebe Shetler finished fourth in 21:17.65, Greta Sieren was fifth in 21:19.28.
Kendal Landstrum placed eight with a time of 22:02.77, Dessa Poll finished ninth in 22:17.65 and Annika Poll placed 10th to round out the top 10 finishers for the Golden Hawks.
Columbus was led by Ariana Vergara with an 18th overall finish. Isabel Rendon placed 25th, Naveiah Garza 28th, Frannie Sosa 45th, Amelia Fulton 47th and Kimberly Gonzalez 54th.
Winfield-Mt. Union had a pair of girl’s runners.
Afton Wilkerson finished 33rd and Jana Isanta Vila placed 39th.
WACO’s Justine Lynn was 48th, Sarah Craun 50th and Deedra Graber 60th.
Emmett Swartzentruber was a second-overall finisher for the Mid-Prairie boys. He crossed the finish line in 16:59.31.
Preston Yutzy placed fourth with a time of 17:35.43. Max Swartzentruber finished 11th, Jesse Stultz placed 16th, Jacob Donaldson 17th and Daniel Rodgers 23rd.
Columbus was paced by Damian Vergara in 12th. He clocked 19:06.24. Ian Estudillo followed in 13th. Cade Storm finished 19th, Bryan Tlatenchi was 22nd, Ryan Villa 45th, Drake Marin 48th and Ellis Hills-Carrier 50th.
Kohlby Newsom led Winfield-Mt. Union with eighth overall. Newsom ran a time of 18:21.24.
Gabe Hemsworth finished 15th, Ty Scorpil ended in 26th, Bowen Thomson was 31st and Jacob Nelson 49th.
WACO had a trio of runners in the race.
Keiran Luitjens placed 27th, Tristan Luitjens 33rd and Deacon Bird 60th.
The Washington girls were led with a second-overall finish by Iris Dahl. Dahl ran 20:09.80.
Quincy Griffis was inside the top 10, placing ninth in 22:25.40.
Alyvia Anderson was 11th, Angeline Anderson 13th and Amelia Dahl 14th.
Lauren Horak ended in 16th followed by Isabella Lujan in 17th and Emma Horak in 18th to round out the Demons scoring.
Fairfield’s Carley Seeley ran to a sixth-place finish. Seeley ran 21:36.12.
Malena Bloomquist placed 19th, Caroline Van Pelt was 21st, Paige Bisgard was 41st, Bailey Belzer 44th, Emerson Porter 54th and Lydia Cass 63rd. Valerie Hernandez was 66th.
For Mt. Pleasant, Nelle Peterson placed 28th, Monroe James ended 32nd, Jayden Yoder 43rd, Tatum Kane 51st and Hailey Parrott 65th.
