Washington's Roder and Hoffman receive All-SEC accolades

A pair of Washington players were honored when the All-Southeast Conference boys? basketball teams were released recently.

The Demons tied Fairfield for fourth place in the conference with a 1-7 record in league play.

No Washington players were selected to the all-conference first team, but senior Kyle Roder was a second-team all-conference pick. The 6-foot guard ranked fourth in the conference in scoring with 11.1 points per game, and his 20 steals in league play were second behind Mt. Pleasant senior Cameron Frank, who had 21.

?Kyle played really hard on both ends,? Washington head coach Bryce Smeins said. ?He had some nice shooting nights for us. I just thought he had a really nice year for us, and it was nice to see him get all-conference honors.?

Senior Justin Hoffman received all-conference honorable mention for the Demons. The 6-foot-2 post player averaged 6.5 points and 4.1 rebounds per game during the conference slate, and his 15 steals in league games ranked fifth in the SEC.

?Justin was a 6-foot-2 guy playing in the post against bigger guys most of the time, and that made life tough for him. But he fought hard all year,? Smeins said. ?I thought he had a nice year for us playing amongst big guys in the lane.?

Five players ? Roder, Hoffman, Alex Coker, Noah Lebsack and Mason Quigley ? made the academic all-conference squad. Cheerleaders Lauren Carter, Mallory Van Winkle, Holly Vittetoe and Katlynn Wellington also earned spots on the academic all-conference team.

?It?s good to see kids doing well in the classroom during the season,? Smeins said.
