WASHINGTON — Washington’s Emery Walton made a monumental decision on Friday afternoon as the Demon senior signed her letter of intent to play softball for Ellsworth Community College in Iowa Falls.
Signing in front of her family and friends, Walton says she feels she’s made the best choice for her.
“After all the colleges I looked at, I feel I’ve made the best choice for me and I’m really excited to move forward,” Walton said. “I’m a little nervous as well. It’s a big step, but it has also taken a little pressure off now knowing where I’m going.”
For Walton, Ellsworth felt more like home.
“I really liked everyone there and no one had anything negative to say,” she said. “It’s the perfect distance from home and it felt like home.”
The Washington outfielder as been integral to the Demons’ success the past three years and she will be looking to help propel the Demons to an even better summer in her last go in the orange and black.
“I think we just need to come ready right away,” Walton said. “We have great potential, but we can work even harder this offseason.”
In 2023, Walton played in and started all 37 games for Washington. At the plate, she batted a cool .259 with 29 hits, 23 RBIs and 21 runs.
Out in center, Walton was near perfect, finished with a fielding percentage of .965, while tallying just two errors.
Walton says that being a Demon has helped her grow in confidence.
When Walton does get to ECC, she will be joining a Panthers teams that finished the spring season at 15-34.
