West Liberty 21 - Mid-Prairie 6
It was tough sledding for the Mid-Prairie football team as they were looking to get back on track in Week 3.
Leading 6-2 at halftime, the Golden Hawks were looking to build on their lead, but West Liberty had other ideas, exploding for 19 unanswered points in the final two periods, handing Mid-Prairie their second-straight loss.
The Golden Hawks moved to 1-2 on the season and 0-1 in district play.
The Comets forced three Mid-Prairie turnovers in the contest, with two coming via interceptions, while their senior running back, Noah Feldman, made his seven receptions count, going for 106 yards and two scores.
Sophomore Comet quarterback Seth Feldman was strong for West Liberty, completing 64 percent of his passes for 206 yards and three touchdowns in the contest.
Mid-Prairie struggled offensively, only mustering 60 yards of offense through the air, with senior Ricky Vargas leading the team with three receptions for 20 yards.
On the ground, Vargas led the team with 85 of the team?s 103 rushing yards, accounting for the lone score of the night, coming on a 4-yard carry.
Defensively, Vargas had a team-best nine tackles, while Karson Gingerich had 8.5 tackles and Levi Duwa notched 7.5 tackles with 1.5 tackles for a loss.
The Golden Hawks will have a tough test in their next contest, as they will head to No. 8 ranked Mount Vernon on Friday night.
Midland 58 ? WACO 27
The WACO Warriors hit the road for the third time in four games, traveling to Wyoming for their contest against Midland on Friday night.
Midland proved to be too much for the Warriors, as they fell 58-27 on the night, dropping WACO to 1-3 on the season.
The Warriors relied heavily on their rushing attack on Friday night, seeing sophomore Tim Ackles earn 144 yards on 12 rushes for three scores, including a 66-yard scamper.
Colton Horak added to his strong season with 99 more rushing yards, while Jackson Roth added a rushing score.
Roth was strong defensively, making 12 tackles in the contest, while Jason Sammons had 7.5 tackles and Horak notched 7.
WACO will be at home next week, as the Warriors celebrate homecoming against Springville on Friday night.
Wilton 42 ? Columbus 0
Wilton flexed its muscles in the district-opening contest against Columbus, spoiling the Wildcats? homecoming with a 42-0 victory.
The Beavers, now ranked No. 9 in the latest Class 1A poll, held the Wildcat offense in check, as Columbus was only able to manage 159 yards of total offense, all coming from the ground.
Columbus senior quarterback Carter Colby had 17 rushes for 87 yards to lead the Wildcats, while senior Daniel Fuentes notched 54 yards in the contest.
