Hawks pick up weekend sweep
The Mid-Prairie baseball team had a strong weekend on the diamond, convincingly taking two games on Thursday and Saturday.
On Thursday, the Hawks had a dominating performance on the mound from sophomore Derek Rich against North Cedar.

Hawks pick up weekend sweep
The Mid-Prairie baseball team had a strong weekend on the diamond, convincingly taking two games on Thursday and Saturday.
On Thursday, the Hawks had a dominating performance on the mound from sophomore Derek Rich against North Cedar.
Rich pitched a three-hit shutout in the contest, striking out 11 batters on the night and not issuing a walk.
Offensively, the Hawks had six hits, with Rich accounting for two of them along with an RBI, while Braeden Nielsen went 1-for-4 with a run scored.
On Saturday, the Hawks hosted English Valleys in a nonconference matchup and ended with an 8-3 victory.
Jackson Yoder started the game for Mid-Prairie, going 4 1/3 innings and allowing four hits, striking out five.
Adam Schrock came in to finish the game, going the last 2 2/3 innings, allowing one hit and three unearned runs.
Rich had another strong game at the plate, going 3-for-4, while Terrhyn Jacoby went 2-for-2 with two runs scored and Ryan Errthum went 2-for-3 with a run scored.
Mid-Prairie improved to 8-6 on the season, and will look to add another pair of wins when Tipton comes to town for a doubleheader on Monday night.
Keota drops pair over weekend
The Keota baseball team wasn?t able to muster enough offense this weekend, as they dropped two games on Friday and Saturday.
During Friday?s contest, the Eagles put up six hits, and brought three runs across.
Six different Eagles earned a hit, but English Valleys had five runs in the sixth and seventh innings to take the victory 7-3.
Jacob Wickencamp, Jack Eakins and Tyler Verstrate each picked up runs in the contest for Keota in the game.
In the Saturday game against Southeast Warren, the Eagles struck first with a two-RBI double from Anthony Campbell.
After that, Southeast Warren put up 12 unanswered runs, including a game-ending seven-run sixth inning.
Keota only managed three hits, with Wickencamp and Eakins joining Campbell on the score sheet.
The Eagles are 5-9 on the season, and are scheduled to take on HLV on the road on Monday.
WACO falls in doubleheader
Despite scoring 10 runs on Friday, the WACO baseball team fell in a pair of games on the day.
During a doubleheader with Cedar Valley Christian, the Warriors were swept 9-5, 16-5, falling to 1-14 on the season.
Gabe Black, Justyn Chalupa and Matthew Leichty each had two hits in the first game, while Black and Chalupa each scored two runs.
Black, Chalupa and Leichty each had RBIs in the opener, while BJ Rodgers gave up two earned runs in the loss.
In the nightcap, Cedar Valley Christian had an 11-run first inning as they took the game in five innings.
Brandon Trinkle had two hits in the game, while Leichty scored two runs and Jason Sammons and Jacob Fried each had two RBIs.
WACO will look to pick up a win over Winfield-Mt. Union on Monday night.
IMS goes 1-3 over the weekend
After a massive offensive output on Thursday, things calmed down for the Iowa Mennonite baseball team.
After a 16-0 victory over Winfield-Mt. Union, IMS fell in a doubleheader to Lone Tree, and a Saturday game against Wapello.
In the victory, IMS had Kirby Shetler, Tobyn Bender and Justin Litwiller each pick up three hits in the contest.
Bender and Litwiller led the team with three RBIs, while Shetler, Noah Bruns and Cole Ours each had two RBIs.
Shetler, Bender and Jakob Schmidt scored three runs each for IMS in the contests.
Payton Miller earned the win for IMS on the mound, allowing one hit and issuing one walk, while striking out two batters.
In Game 1 against Lone Tree, Shetler scored two runs while Miller had two RBIs, as IMS fell 11-3.
In Game 2, IMS only mustered two hits, but fell 1-0 to the Lions. Shetler allowed four hits in the game, striking out three on the mound.
On Saturday, IMS picked up 12 hits, with five different players earning two base knocks.
Drake Brezina scored two runs in the game, but IMS fell 7-6 to Wapello, who put across the game-winning run in the bottom of the sixth.
Bender had two RBIs in the contest.
IMS moved to 3-10 on the season and will host Pekin on Monday night.
