Weekend baseball roundup: Ravens fly

This weekend saw Hillcrest Academy stay perfect in Southeast Iowa Super Conference North Division play as the small school baseball schedule approaches the postseason.
Hillcrest Academy 12, Highland 0 (5)
The Ravens stayed perfect in SEISC North contests with a dominant win over the Huskies on Thursday.
Grant Bender had an enormous day, going 2-for-3 with two home runs and six RBIs to help the Ravens take out a North Division rival. Rowan Miller was 2-for-2 with a double and three RBIs. Jace Rempel went 1-for-3 with an RBI.
Luke Schrock went five innings, giving up just two hits and one walk, while striking out five Huskies.
Hillcrest Academy 12, Prince of Peace 2 (5)
Luke Schrock was 3-for-3 with two doubles and three RBIs as the Ravens pounded Prince of Peace on Saturday.
Liam Schrock went 2-for-3 with three RBIs of his own. Bender knocked in two more runs, and Miller gave up two runs (one earned) over five innings to earn the win.
Highland 16, Lone Tree 1 (4)
The Huskies bounced right back one night later, toppling Lone Tree in just four frames.
William Dunbar went off against the Lions, going 4-for-4 with a triple, a double and six RBIs. Peyton Yeggy was 2-for-3 with four RBIs, and Logan McFarland went 3-for-3 with an RBI.
Bryce Hazelett gave up just one run on two hits on the mound, going all four innings for Highland.
Northeast 15, Highland 8
Tyler Thompson was 3-for-4 with two doubles and four RBIs, and Garrett Beason collected two hits and two RBIs, but the Huskies couldn’t contain Northeast in a shootout.
No. 6 (1A) North Linn 4, Highland 0
The Huskies showed they could play with a Top-10 team, as Ethany Pasiley kept Highland in it, giving up just four runs (two earned) over seven full innings. North Linn, however, prevailed.
Highland batters collected just two hits. Paisley was 1-for-3 with a double to lead the way.
Pekin 2, Wapello 1
Ben Ehret threw a seven-inning three-hitter, giving up just one earned run in the Panthers’ one-run victory.
Will Adam was 2-for-3 with an RBI in the win. JaeDon Wolver was 2-for-4, and Sven Dahlstrom had an RBI.
Winfield-Mount Union/Columbus 7, Lone Tree 0 (forfeit)
The Lions had to forfeit what was a 10-0 win over WMU/Columbus due to a player pitching over the pitch limit during the contest. The game counted as a conference win for the Wolves.
Louisa-Muscatine 8, Winfield-Mount Union/Columbus 2
The Wolves were bested by six runs against SEISC North rival Louisa-Muscatine.
Grant Watson went 1-for-3 with a double and an RBI to lead WMU/Columbus. Riley Kaalberg was 1-for-2 with an RBI as well.
Trevor Phillips struck out eight batters in the start and gave up just four runs (three arned) in the loss.
Van Buren County 15, New London 4
The Warriors took down the Tigers in SEISC South play, thanks in part by yet another big game for Jackson Manning. Manning went 3-for-4 with a triple, a double and four RBIs. Izaak Loeffler was 3-for-5 with two RBIs, and Dominic Meierotto knocked in two runs.
No. 8 (1A) Notre Dame 8, Van Buren County 5
The Warriors couldn’t hold off Notre Dame in a battle for first place in the SEISC South. The win locked up the division for the Nikes.
Van Buren County 13, North Mahaska 0
The Warriors bounced back on Saturday with a dominant win over North Mahaska.
West Burlington 15, New London 14
The Falcons and Tigers played a wild one in West Burlington on Friday as 29 total runners crossed the plate.
New London came into the seventh down one run after a four-run West Burlington sixth. The Tigers failed to score any runs in their final at-bat.
New London held a 7-0 lead at one point in the game, before West Burlington came storming back.
Albia 18, Cardinal 2 (4)
Game 1 of a South Central Conference doubleheader was a tough one as the Comets were beaten by 16 in Eldon.
Gavin Ware led the Comets with a double and an RBI. Quinn Snyder knocked in one run as well.
Cardinal 8, Albia 0
Game 2 looked quite a bit different, as the Comets shut down the Blue Demons to earn the split.
Quinn Snyder dominated on the mound, throwing a complete-game, five-hit shut out. He struck out eight batters for the Comets.
Ware went 1-for-4 with a double and an RBI to lead the offense.
No. 2 (2A) Mid-Prairie 7, West Liberty 3
The Golden Hawks ran away from West Liberty late, thanks in part to a monster performance from Cain Brown, who went 3-for-4 with two RBIs and a ridiculous five stolen bases. Landry Gingerich knocked in two runs.
No. 2 Mid-Prairie 12, Durant 11
The Golden Hawks closed out a perfect week with a walk-off winner over Durant. Mid-Prairie had to storm back from six runs down earlier in the game.
Brown had another big one, going 3-for-5 with a home run, a double and four RBIs. Brock Harland picked up the win on the mound.
Belle Plaine 10, Keota 2
Keota couldn’t hold on to an early lead against the Plainsmen.
The Eagles had justone hit on the day, coming from Tanner Waterhouse. Chase Sieren and Caleb Waterhouse each had RBIs.
