Weekend volleyball roundup: Big weekend for Mid-Prairie

The area’s small school volleyball teams took to the hardwood this weekend in a handful of tournaments around the area.
Mid-Prairie dominates Central Lee tourney
No. 14 (3A) Mid-Prairie went 4-1 in the Central Lee tournament. That included a huge win over No. 4 (2A) West Burlington (21-16, 21-15) after falling to the Falcons earlier that day.
Landry Pacha, Harper Pacha and Jovi Evans each had five kills in the win over West Burlington. Pacha had six in a big sweep of Burlington.
Along with the Burlington schools, the Golden Hawks also swept Keokuk and Pekin.
Pekin had a rough go of it, falling in straight sets to Keokuk, West Burlington and Mid-Prairie.
Wolves go 2-5 in West Branch
No. 15 (1A) Winfield-Mount Union had a tough time scooping up wins in West Branch, as the Wolves went 2-5 in an all-day tournament.
The two Wolves wins came over Iowa City Regina (21-9, 21-19) and Prince of Peace (17-21, 21-17, 15-3). Bradie Buffington had six kills in the Prince of Peace win. Audrie Gipple led with three against Regina.
WMU lost to Southeast Iowa Super Conference North Division rival Wapello, falling in three sets. They also lost in three against Don Bosco, and were swept by West Branch twice, and Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont once.
Highland nips Danville (Thursday)
The Huskies slipped past the Bears in a SEISC cross-over battle. Highland won in five sets, taking it 23-25, 25-23, 25-13, 20-25, 15-12.
Sarah Burton had a huge game for the Huskies, collecting 15 kills and 28 digs. Adelynn Kleopfer finished with six kills. Lorelei Lueck had five. MyLei Smith finished with 18 assists.
