Union area wrestlers traveled around the state of Iowa on Saturday as the weekend tournament schedule shifts into full swing.
Demon boys win Cascade Duals
Fresh off winning the Washington County quad on Tuesday, the Demons went to the Cascade Duals on Friday.
Washington fell in the opener against North Linn, falling 40-30, but rattled off four-straight wins after that, including a 56-24 win over MFL MarMac.

Mt. Pleasant boys 3rd at Willard Howell Invite
The best area result at the 60th annual Willard Howell boys’ Invitational went to Mt. Pleasant, which took third place overall with 155 points. WACO was sixth, with 91.5. Sigourney-Keota took seventh, with 90. Highland scored 60, for eighth.
Mt. Pleasant had two wrestlers take second, as Levi Evans went 3-1 in the 106-pound round robin, and Ramzy Davis made it to the 150-pound championship match.
WACO saw three wrestlers come away with wins. Ian Maize took first at 106 pounds. Gage Samo was first at 120, and Louden Huisenga took the top spot at 190.
Sigourney-Keota had one runner-up, as Jacob Libe took second at 157. Highland’s Cash Cole took second at 113 for the Huskies’ lone finalist.
On the girls’ side, Cardinal took sixth place, with 94 points. Sigourney-Keota was seventh, with 90. Mt. Pleasant took ninth, with 77.5, and WACO was 15th, at 45.
Cardinal didn’t have anyone make the championship match, despite being the highest area team in the standings.
SK’s Reanah Utterback won the 115-pound bracket, and Karley Greiner was second at 170.
The only other area winner was Zenlynn Lee of Mt. Pleasant. Leee took first in the 145-pound bracket.
Fairfield boys 6th in West Delaware
The Fairfield boys finished tied for sixth with Central DeWitt at the Bob Murphy Invitational in West Delaware. The Trojans scored 106.5 points.
The Trojans’ lone winner was Cael McCabe, who took first place in the 113-pound bracket, narrowly defeating Central Dewitt’s Cale Johnson, 1-0, in the championship match.
Dain Burkhart took second in the 175-pound bracket, giving the Trojans two wrestlers in the Top-2.
